I love seeing movies from all over the world. I don't like movies that have been reworked. I prefer them in their original context. Sometimes the true meaning of the phrase is lost in translation because it only makes sense in the film's original language. I love French films because I love the language and my French DVD collection is proof of this.
I have over a hundred French DVDs and even a few video cassettes in my collection of French films. I have spent the last 2 decades adding to my collection of foreign films and films. These are short descriptions of three of my favourite French films. 8 Femmes or 8 Women is a mysterious musical comedy based on the play of Robert Thomas. From the title, one can easily assume that the film is about 8 women. This film reminds me of the board game Cluedo, we assume that even when the murder took place and which weapon was used.
Au Revoir Les Enfants
Au Revoir Les Enfants is a very touching story about an anti-Nazi Catholic priest who hid Jewish students in a Catholic hostel in France during World War II.
Of all the French films I've watched over the years, Amelie is my favourite. The plot is simple but fun. The main character, Amelie, is a shy waitress with bright imagination and the ability to bring joy into the lives of others, hiding all the fun. However, in all her efforts to bring happiness to others, she lost her own happiness. This film explores escape and what it takes to overcome it.
